DanceXchange is looking for two dance artists to deliver an exciting collaborative project, Human In Balance – Birmingham, led by Don Gnu of Denmark as part of Birmingham International Dance Festival 2020.

The project will be performed in Centenary Square on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June 2020, a part of BIDF’s Showcasing event 2020, celebrating the best of British and international outdoor dance practice. The two selected UK artists will also attend a week-long residency with Don Gnu in Denmark during April.

We are inviting proposals from Midlands-based dance artists from a wide array of styles and genres, such as Contemporary, Hip-Hop, African, Ballet, South Asian dance styles (and many more), who meet the following criteria:

  • Highly skilled at technical and creative delivery of dance/movement
  • A high level of improvisational skill – the performer must be open to challenging their own physical language
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to give/receive effective and constructive feedback
  • A strong understanding of their creative voice
  • Open to learning and collaborating with other artists and genres of movement
  • Highly motivated, reliable and used to working creatively within a limited timeframe
  • A positive commitment to the project aims and delivery model


BIRMINGHAM AUDITION: Wednesday 25 March 2020

DENMARK RESIDENCY: Monday 20 April – Friday 25 April 2020* or  Monday 27 April – Friday 1 May 2020*

  • Rehearsals: Monday 1 – Saturday 6 June 2020 & Monday 8 – Friday 12 June 2020
  • Performances: Saturday 13 June 2020 – x 2 shows  & Sunday 14 June 2020 – 1 x show

TOTAL FEE: £2250 (DX will cover agreed travel, accommodation and per diems expenses related to the international residency in Denmark)
