DX is thrilled to announce four talented new artists who will be working with our CAT Dance Generation students to create new commissioned works during the spring/summer term.

This work will be premiered as part of the annual CAT outreach and recruitment campaign as well as the end of year CAT Summer Showcase 2021.

Dancexchange - Ariell Smith

Arielle Smith is a choreographer and movement director, and her latest, charming work Jolly Folly can be seen at English National Ballet’s on demand service.

“I’m so excited to work with the CAT students at Dance Xchange this year. Despite the Covid restrictions and limitations I believe now more than ever it’s so important to connect, create and continue training. I’m looking forward to getting to know them all and seeing what our time together will bring!”

Dancexchange - Richard-ChappellRichard Chappell  is an internationally renowned choreographer.

Since 2013, he has lead his own ensemble Richard Chappell Dance as a platform for his choreographic research and critically acclaimed performance work.

“It’s been really warming to see how tenacious and impassioned young dancers have been across the UK. With the DanceXchange CAT students, I want to create something with them that celebrates their fortitude and personal resilience, whilst challenging them to think boldly about their own artistic decision-making and technical growth. They have learnt so much this year about their ability to take responsibility for their own training and I want to give them a platform to show their resilience through choreography.”

DanceXchange - Sandrine Monin

Sandrine Monin is a contemporary dance choreographer, creating work which transports her audience into poetic and surrealistic atmospheres and creates relatable and emotionally engaging experiences.

Her choreographic signature is visceral, marrying strong physicality, sophisticated technique and human sensitivity. It is built on over 13 years’ experience as a professional dancer around Europe and the UK for renowned company (Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, Phoenix Dance Theatre).

“I am thrilled to come and choreograph for the DanceXchange CAT programme. I love creating and sharing my practice with young dancers. I’m looking forward to be inspired by each and everyone of them, to discover their personalities, the dynamic of the group and devise a work that will really reflect them.”
