The National Summer School

Join some of the UK’s leading dance artists and organisations this summer for an online dance course.

We are very excited to announce we have partnered with DanceEast, The Place, National Dance Company Wales, Pavilion Dance South West and Phoenix Dance Theatre to bring you three days of high-quality online dance training at home.

Lets’s Move! will take place Wed 12 – Fri 14 Aug and each day you will take part in two different workshops taught over Zoom. This opportunity us suitable for ages 8-17 years old (participants will be grouped by age).

Over the course of the week you will have:

  • Daily warm-ups with all summer school participants
  • Two workshops (one hour each) per day in smaller groups
  • Six workshops in total (one with each of the partner organisations)
  • Various tasks, challenges and activities throughout the week
  • The opportunity to connect with other young dancers from across the UK

All you have to decide is whether you want to take part in the morning or in the afternoon. Morning sessions will run from 9.30am – 12.30pm and afternoon sessions will run from 1pm – 4pm. Please note, you must commit to all three-morning sessions or all three-afternoon sessions.

National Dance Company Wales | Based in Cardiff
National Dance Company Wales make brilliant dance with and for all kinds of people in all kinds of places, from Welsh town halls and community spaces to international stages and festivals, and online. The company believes in the power of dance and shares their passion for the art form by creating new possibilities of what dance can be so that more people can make, watch, participate in and learn about dance in Wales and across the world.

Pavilion Dance South West | Based in Bournemouth
Pavilion Dance South West believes that dance is for everyone and it is dedicated to transforming communities through dance. Based in a wonderful historic seafront building, PDSW has two dance studios for classes and rehearsals and a 192 seat theatre for live shows.

Phoenix Dance Theatre | Based in Leeds
Phoenix Dance Theatre is the UK’s longest-standing contemporary dance company outside of London. Founded in 1981, Phoenix Dance Theatre’s aim is to create dynamic, diverse and relevant work that embodies the Company’s rich Caribbean history and shines a light on cultural narratives that are often overlooked or untold. Each year the Company embarks on national tours presenting critically acclaimed dance productions to audiences throughout the UK and further, reaching up to 20,000 people.
