Dance for Parkinsons / Community Class

In Dance for PD classes, participants explore movement and music in ways that are enjoyable, stimulating and creative. Born from the idea that people with Parkinson’s benefit from the insight and artistic techniques and methods dancers use to guide their bodies and minds, Dance for PD classes invite participants and care partners to experience the grace, fluidity, and power of dance in a creative, social, joyful, and supportive environment.

This internationally-acclaimed, multiple award-winning program, first developed collaboratively by the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group in 2001, is appropriate for anyone with Parkinson’s at all levels of ability and mobility.

No dance experience is required. In chairs, standing at a barre, or travelling, you will explore elements of contemporary dance, ballet, structured improvisation, tap, social dancing, and Mark Morris company repertory in a non-pressured, social environment in which music energizes, enriches and empowers.

This class is free of charge for people with Parkinson’s, their families, friends and care partners. The venue is fully accessible, and staff will be on hand to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Workshops attendees will have access to a special discounted ticket for Mark Morris Pepperland at Birmingham Hippodrome.
