Selina in partnership with DanceXchange and The Swing Era are proud to announce a new class partnership in the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter. This new pilot project will run from Tuesday 12 November – Saturday 21 December 2019. This new scheme will offer yoga, salsa, Lindy Hop and Solo Jazz classes to the JQ community and Selina hostel guests.

CURRENT TIMETABLE

Yoga / Tuesdays – Saturdays / 6.30-7.30am

Tuesday – Thursday / Expect to wake up your body, warming up your muscles, joints and mind. These classes are a great start to your day, enabling you to leave feeling refreshed and balanced. Each week the class has a different theme that will enable you to develop your yoga practice but also take time to reflect on different areas of your wellbeing. The classes are suitable for all levels, including beginners. Led by Harriet Elizabeth.

Fridays & Saturdays / Laura’s class is fun, friendly and accessible to all abilities, including those brand new to Yoga. The style is Contemporary Hatha, breaking traditional poses down into their component parts to gain an understanding of them within your own body and mind. Led by Laura.


Salsa /Wednesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays / 5.30-6.30pm

Want to learn to dance salsa from a fun, patient and friendly instructor then try this class with Thomas. He will teach you all the basic steps and technique to be able to dance with confidence on the dance floor. He is the UK’s first qualified salsa dance teacher and therefore has both the knowledge and experience to help even those with two “left feet” who think they have no rhythm.

Students will be made to feel comfortable and relaxed,  follow the rhythm and basic steps in small memorable chunks. This class is fun and a great way to meet new people. Viva la salsa! Led by Thomas.


Lindy Hop / Tuesdays / 5.30-6.30pm

Come and learn Lindy hop with Suky and YiAnn. This is a partnered dance from the 1920s. It originated in the African American communities in Harlem and was danced to Big Band swing music. We will rotate partners in class


Solo Jazz / Fridays / 5.30-6.30pm

Join YiAnn and learn some authentic solo jazz steps from the 1930s and ’40s. Solo Jazz is an expressive solo dance and a lot of fun. All danced to Swing music.
