Venue hire

Housed in the Birmingham Hippodrome complex, we have some fantastic facilities available to hire, including a number of studios and a flexible studio theatre space.

dx Studios

Situated on Level 5 of the Birmingham Hippodrome complex, we have three studios, all of which are inspirational spaces perfect for classes, workshops, rehearsals, and small-scale conferences/seminars.

Specification and facilities

All studios have the following basic specification:

• Size, 12m x 12m
• Fully sprung floor & non-slip dance floors
• Full-length mirrors to one wall
• Air conditioning
• Curtains (studios 1 and 2 only – these can be pulled across to cover the mirrors and windows)
• Male and female changing facilities including showers and toilets (accessible toilet facilities available for people with disabilities)
• Sound equipment including CD and tape (connections for mini disc and/or MP3 players can be sourced on request)
• Yamaha upright piano (studio 3 only)

Studios 1 and 2 are separated by a dividing wall that can be removed to create one studio measuring 12m x 24m.

Studio capacities

All our studios can take up to 30 people at any one time. If Studio 1 and 2 are used as one large studio, the capacity of this space increases to 60 people.

Availability

Our studios are available to hire Monday – Sunday throughout the year.  However, particularly during our own class terms (Sept – Dec, Jan – July), evening and Saturday availability is limited.  Additional costs apply for studio bookings on bank holidays or between Christmas and New Year.

Costs
Rates vary depending on your requirements. As a guide, the basic hire rate for each dx studio per hour is £25 plus VAT. Additional charges will be made for any equipment hire, technical support or staff required. If you’re a West Midlands based dance artist, click here for special rates.

The Patrick Centre

This is our flexible multi-purpose studio theatre situated on Level 3 of Birmingham Hippodrome complex and suitable for many types of performances, functions and events. Set out as a traditional theatre space with raked seating, it is perfect for small-scale performances and conferences/presentations.  Alternatively, the seating can be removed and the space opened up for larger conferences/dinners, and development of new work.

• Size without seating, approx 12m x 24m
• Height to rig 6.5m
• Sprung floor
• Full lighting and sound rig available on request
• Projection facilities
• Dressing rooms available on request

Capacity

The maximum number of people allowed in The Patrick Centre at any one time is 230.  Performers/speakers are included in this number, as are any front of house and technical staff present in the space during the performance or event.

Availability

Please note that, particularly during our own performance seasons (Sept – Dec, Jan – June), availability of The Patrick Centre is limited. If you are interested in making a booking during these months, please contact us as early as you can.
