News Youth Dance England (YDE) Evaluation Report

19th October 2011

YDE have published an external Evaluation Report on their activity in 2008-11, which depicts YDE’s impact on children and young people’s dance in the past 3 years.

YDE developed the first National Development Programme for youth dance that addressed the recommendations of The Dance Review. A report to Government on Dance Education and Youth Dance in England by Tony Hall (March 2008).  The Programme focused on three key priorities: to widen access to dance; to raise the quality of dance provision for young people through a clear framework of standards in dance practice; and to improve progression routes for young people wishing to pursue a career in dance.

YDE worked in a unique way with nine leading dance/arts organisations, based in each region of England, to create a first national network to support the local delivery of dance to young people. The report refers to the work of the regional partner organisations (RPOs) and in particular DanceXchange is mentioned with reference to our work in developing young choreographers and includes a case study of a member of the West Midlands Youth Dance Forum and her development and commitment to a career in dance.
