Take part in Home
15th February 2012
Home is a bold, inventive new dance production that will move through the streets of Birmingham city centre as part of IDFB 2012. We are looking for 1000 individuals to contribute towards the creation of, and be involved in, the performances that will take place between 23 April & 13 May 2012.
Take Part
You can take part in this ambitious project in a number of ways. We are seeking contributions in any art form that respond to the themes of Home, Identity and Belonging.
You can create your contribution on your own, using the free resource pack for inspiration; or if you want more support and opportunity to work with our professional dance leaders, come to DanceXchange for an Open Day or take part in the Short Course. If you lead, or are part of a group, you can even book a workshop leader to deliver bespoke sessions for you at your own venue.
Open Days
Join us at one of two Home Open Days this spring – open to anyone who’d like to create, develop, record or rehearse a contribution. These events are free to attend and open to all those aged 12 and over.
They will take place at DanceXchange, on Saturday 25 February and Saturday 10 March from 11am to 5pm. Places are limited and registration is in advance. Click here to find out more or to book your place.
Short Course
If the Open Days whet your appetite or you’d like to take a more intensive look at the project, we have just the thing for you. In our short course, you will work for four weeks with our Home tutor Kate DeRight, to develop your own creation for the project. The process will be based on your interests and may include work with text, voice, writing, theatrical skills and, of course, movement. The short course participants will be invited to perform during the performance period, 23rd April-13th May.
The short course takes place at DanceXchange, Wednesdays 7th March-28th March, 7.45-9.15pm, and costs £22 // £18 (concs)
Workshops
We have a team of dance tutors who are busy delivering workshops to community groups in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Workshops are happening now until end of March 2012 – do you have a group (of any age or ability) who would like to have one or more workshops? Participants work with a tutor to create their own response to the project, and have the option of taking part in the performances too.
Workshops are very reasonably priced at £15 per workshop – with up to 30 participants, this can work out at 50p per head! Click here to read a blog post by one of our workshop tutors, and to book a workshop or to find out more, please email us!
