Foot In Hand & DanceXchange present ROOM FOR MANOUEVRE 2 – Integrated Dance Summer School

13 – 17 August 2012 // 10 – 5pm daily // DanceXchange, Birmingham Hippodrome

Cost:  £95.00 (waged), £75.00 (part-time) £60.00 (unwaged)

Time and space are vital for all dance-makers, but never more so than for those working in disabled or integrated settings. Inspired by their successful collaboration on the Green Coffee workshops over the past 3 years, Foot In Hand offer the time and DanceXchange the space for experienced disabled and non-disabled dancers to develop their own or participate in others’ choreography.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
All you have to bring is your ideas and enthusiasm on Monday!
From there on, using the same format as our sold-out 2008 intensive at The Place, we will divide into smaller groups (according to interest) of those who wish to create work and those who would like to dance in it. We’ll then spend the rest of the week growing some short dances to be shared with invited family friends and supporters on the Friday afternoon – and in the Foot In Hand tradition likely enjoying friendship and laughter along the way!  2010’s course was particularly convivial with lots of meals out together at the end of the day and collaborations/networking over the past two years.

WHO WILL BE WITH YOU?
Your companion, coach and cheering squad for the week is Foot In Hand’s Creative Director, Louise Katerega. Louise, Place Prize semi-finalist 2006 and co-choreographer of the integrated dance element of the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic sailing events, is one of the UK’s most experienced choreographic and career mentors, who will lead daily technique class then give you the tools to make the most of your imagination, communication skills and confidence to work inclusively.

WHO IS IT FOR?
“ROOM FOR MANOUEVRE 2” is ideal for vocational and HE dance students, disabled and non-disabled professional performers, community dance practioners, specialist dance/PE teachers, disabled people with regular or extensive community dance experience.  If you need to bring a regular, suitably experienced, one-to-one support worker, he/she is most welcome, whether there to help you access the course or feel more at home in the city. Support workers attend free.
