Eight youth groups perform at U.Dance Raw Energy!
27th February 2012
Eight youth groups from across the region took part in U.Dance Raw Energy 2012 at The Patrick Centre on Sunday 19 February. The scene was set with an incidental performance piece by Rugby-based youth dance company beingfrank.
The groups also took part in a variety of workshops throughout the day including Home and Breathe the Beat workshops and a Careers Talkshop; giving groups the opportunity to explore their creative side, tap into their groove and learn a bit more about progression routes in the sector.
The eight fantastic youth groups who performed were:
Nova Dance Company
2Faced Youth Dance
Collison Youth Company
Livingston Dance Academy
W’ire Youth Dance
ACE Youth Dance
Flexus Dance Company
Modus Dance Company (Birmingham Ormiston Academy)
U.Dance Raw Energy serves as a regional selection event for the national event U.Dance 2012 taking place on 13 – 16 July at the Southbank Centre. Only one group was to be selected to go through to perform at the event in the summer.
We are delighted to announce that Flexus Dance Company have been selected to go through to the national event. The work of all of the groups is of such value to the region and the young people who clearly show a huge dedication, commitment and enthusiasm to be part of each group. However, we want to pass on a huge congratulations and thank you to all of the groups who performed and for their commitment and passion throughout the day!
International Raw Energy
We are also excited that Raw Energy continues as International Raw Energy as part of International Dance Festival Birmingham 2012! We’re delighted that ACE Youth and 2Faced Youth Dance will be performing at the event on the 19th May. In partnership with sampad, IDFB will also create two youth companies made up of young dancers from across the West Midlands. Working with international choreographers Anh Ngoc Nguyen (previously a dancer/choreographer with Wayne McGregor I Random Dance) and Delhi-based Sadhya Dance Company, the groups will develop new pieces to be performed in the grand surroundings of Birmingham’s Town Hall!
