PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITY – 10 DANCERS

International Dance Festival Birmingham (IDFB)

Commissioned work choreographed by Luca Silvestrini

International Dance Festival Birmingham co-produced by DanceXchange and Birmingham Hippodrome, takes place from Monday 19 April to Saturday 15 May 2010. Showcasing a huge range of dance styles at venues across the city and the region as well as producing several outdoor events.

DanceXchange (dx) is offering an intensive 2 week work placement opportunity for up to 10 dancers to work alongside 6 professional dancers and Luca Silvestrini on this special commission project taking place on the streets of Birmingham as part of the festival.

Performer requirements:

Male and Female dancers/performers with a keen interest to work on a site-specific performance project. This commission takes place outside on the streets of Birmingham and needs quirky dancers/performers that are willing to work in a non-traditional theatre environment. Additional skills, such as skating, parcore, bmx’ing, circus, are welcomed and can be used in this work. Participants must be available for the dates as listed below and live in the Birmingham area.

About the work:

A brand new piece of quirky contemporary dance/physical theatre, this outdoor performance will start with a subtle, incidental piece that builds into a much more visible display, growing both in number of dancers and choreographic complexity. It will be inspired by real life situations and will respond to architectural features of the city streets. The passers-by will gradually become more and more aware that a dance event is in the making. A natural occasional audience will grow day by day, as the event evolves. The finale to this will be a big splash event, engaging 80+ amateur/community performers in a high profile performance display.

Commitment dates:   W/C 26 April (Monday to Friday/Saturday)

                                  W/C 3 May 2010 (Tuesday to Sunday)

Details:   This is a placement opportunity and no fees will be paid

Minimum of 2 years dance training

Participants must be able to work in Birmingham for the duration
and therefore live locally
