Contemporary
The contemporary strand of the Centre for Advanced training is available to young dancers within the West Midlands. It is aimed at pupils aged between 11 and 16 who have shown exceptional talent or potential in contemporary dance, but students do not necessarily need to have prior training.
The programme offers participants:
- Balanced education
- Recognition and support
- Holistic training in safe environment
- Strengthening technique and performance skills
- Opportunity to learn from experienced tutors and artists
- Experience in different dance styles
- Visits to dance performances
- Performance opportunities at prestigious venues
How does it work?
CAT participants for contemporary style attend weekly training on Sundays during term time, at the DanceXchange studios in Birmingham. Participants should also undertake weekly training from a local dance teacher to strengthen their training. A student bursary is available to help support this additional training.
The students will also attend a summer intensive, which combines students from both strands and culminates in an exciting performance. This is a great way to end the term and allows to students transfer the skills they have acquired and developed over the course of the term, into performance. It also gives students the opportunity to team up with and learn from students from other dance disciplines.
Each participant has an Individual Training Plan devised in consultation withparents/ guardian and local dance teacher to support the student’s learning, and ensure balance is maintained between the demands of school work and dance studies.
