Ghosts, Ghouls and Gargoyles
A site-specific, community dance and storytelling project for, by and about Newport Shropshire, Ghosts, Ghouls and Gargoyles, aimed to give participants and audience members knowledge of and pride in their local community. Resources and research were gathered from Shropshire Archives to inform the project, storyteller Amy Douglas explored this history and the stories surrounding it and choreographer Bettina Strickler and rehearsal Director Rose Gordon translated these stories into movement sequences. A workshop programme of storytelling and dance workshops took place, firstly to gather stories to inform the performance and then to explore them, in local schools and community settings. Bettina Strickler worked with a community company of dancers to create an original dance production inspired by these stories and history which culminated in an afternoon and evening of public performances on Halloween at Adams’ Grammar School.
