DanceXchange (dx), in partnership with Birmingham Hippodrome, is to deliver an International Dance Festival for Birmingham, a major biennial event, with the first to take place in April/May 2008.

The Festival will capture the imagination with a world-class programme that encompasses all styles of dance and expresses the youthful, diverse and energetic spirit of Birmingham and the West Midlands. It will achieve media recognition and critical acclaim, bringing a large number of new visitors to Birmingham and reinforcing its reputation as a city international in both vision and scope.

It will inspire high profile artists to work in Birmingham and will capitalise on Birmingham’s acclaimed resources as a national centre for dance. It will connect with Birmingham’s young and diverse communities, and will raise the profile of dance across Birmingham and the West Midlands, increasing participation in healthy dance activity and improving fitness and well-being.

The Festival will play a significant role in supporting Birmingham’s profile as a major cultural city and international dance destination, coming at a time when there is a new-found confidence in celebrating the city’s arts and culture.
