I joined dx in June 2011 as project manager, leading on Unlimited (a new commission of work for British and South African disabled and non-disabled dancers) as well as our Arts Champions work in Sutton Coldfield, and I also work on the community engagement aspect of Home.
Previously I worked in Oxford and still live there, which means a lot of time spent on trains each day! Although I studied English and German at university, I kept up my interest in and love of dance, and during my studies discovered Oxford’s vibrant professional dance community. After completing my BA and masters I stayed in the city to work in dance project management and for education/community projects. This included work with Dancin’ Oxford festival, Oxford Dance Forum, Oxford Youth Dance, South East Dance, Arts at the Old Fire Station and a period of time as Dance Officer at Oxford City Council. I still coordinate an Oxford-based project called ‘Dance and Academia’ which I set up in 2007 to provide opportunities for academics and dance practitioners to engage in meaningful debate and to exchange ideas and knowledge.
When not managing dance or going to dance classes, I spend a lot of time singing in choirs in and around Oxford. I’m waiting for the right moment to put on a project which combines dance and singing in new and possibly unexpected ways… Watch this space!
