Leonie Hart

Project Manager
Leonie Hart

I am Project Manager for all the work in Telford that DanceXchange is involved in. This includes a programme of Contemporary Dance classes for 4 – 19 year olds, Making Choreographers (a three year project providing 10 young people with the skills and experience needed to choreograph their own work), one off community projects such as Ghosts, Ghouls and Gargoyles (a site-specific performance which took place in Newport on Halloween), as well as other projects working with local schools in partnership with Telford Culture Zone.

I have been in this role since Summer 2008 and prior to this worked in my first role for DanceXchange on the inaugural International Dance Festival Birmingham as Project Manager for Salsa at Sunset, the community participation event, held in The Mailbox that provided the finale for the festival.

This was my first experience of the region, (and what a fun and exciting experience it was!) as I relocated from Leeds where I had worked at West Yorkshire Playhouse in their Arts Development department co-ordinating the Spark project for Bradford and prior to this as the Press and PR Manager there. My first job after graduating from Manchester University was in the Press and Marketing department at The Lowry, Salford. Whilst living in Leeds I worked as a volunteer for the Leeds Asylum Seekers Support Network, teaching English as a Foreign Language. Since moving to Birmingham I have worked as a volunteer for the Refugee Council. I continue my connection with West Yorkshire now, through work with Bradford’s Theatre in the Mill working with both Midlands and Yorkshire based artists.

I am passionate about the power of the Arts to change lives and it is a belief in this that has brought me down this career path and led me to make the move from Press and PR to the Development work I am involved with now. Dance in particular is a tremendous tool for breaking down barriers and enabling people of all ages and abilities to engage and achieve whilst having an awful lot of fun and creating something rather beautiful while they’re at it!
